In China, you can get a 50MB internet plan each month for Y20 ($3CDN) and you don't even need a contract. In Canada, they're going to start charging you for incoming text messages.
If you're wondering, text messages here cost Y0.10 (1.6 cents) each; calls are Y0.70 (11 cents) a minute. That's why you see fifty old women texting on the subway everyday.

What the hell happened here? I'm just trying to tell Geoff he sucks at Fantasy Hockey and suddenly a telecom industry discussion breaks out? Damn.
I do believe the debate about opening up Canada to free competition is dependent not upon the consumer getting gouged, but rather upon the fact that if we opened it up our players would get swallowed up in a hurry. Have to weigh corporate tax income + Canadian jobs + sovereignty of Canadian industry versus better plans for consumers. Tough call from the government's perspective.
